For whom?

You don’t have to be a biologist! Anyone with a heart for nature, biodiversity, and conservation is welcome to join.

Durmitor National Park is a breath-taking limestone massif in Northern Montenegro. Formed by glaciers and traversed by rivers and underground streams, the UNESCO world heritage site harbors extraordinary biodiversity and includes 50 mountain peaks higher than 2000 m above sea level. This sublime mountain region, clothed in native pine forests and fringed by the staggering Tara River Canyon, the second deepest gorge in the world, will impress you forever!

On this exciting trip you will:

Discover new species for science and write a real scientific article

• Explore, on a raft, the biologically poorly known Tara River Canyon, the deepest canyon in Europe and the second deepest canyon in the world

Enter several limestone caves in search for unsuspected cavernicolous lifeforms

• Work with entomologists to operate fancy insect trapping devices with exotic names like Malaise Trap, Baited Pitfall Trap, and the Winkler Eclector

• Learn to use the prototype portable genetics equipment from the experts who are developing it

• Sample the endemic invertebrates that inhabit the cascades, sparkling rapids, and numerous waterfalls of Nevidio gorge, a hidden passage that remained unexplored until 1965

• Operate several state-of-the-art apps for species identification with Artificial Intelligence

• Learn the age-old techniques for setting and pinning insects

Hike into the heart of Durmitor Mountain, so get ready for breath-taking geological features, glacial lakes, steep cliffs, and wild nature!

• Enjoy thrilling evening lectures by the expedition experts
